Your ribbon light is on and you have put a new ribbon in the printer.
The Evolis printers when installed will default to a color ribbon setting. If you are not using a color ribbon then you will need to change the ribbon type in the printer driver. To do this you would click on START and go to your PRINTER AND FAXES. In there you will see an icon for your Evolis printer. Right click on it and select PROPERTIES. This will open the driver. There are several tabs at the top. The only 2 that are used by the end user are GRAPHIC and TOOLS. In the GRAPHIC tab you will find the ribbon selection.
One thing to note is that the command to change the ribbon is sent just like a print job. So you will want to make sure there are no pending print jobs in the print spooler. If there is the command will not be sent.
Your eMedia software is asking for a second key or is in DEMO MODE
The Evolis Pebble and Dualys come with free eMedia software. The Tattoo and Quantum printers will require a second key that you can purchase from your reseller. If you have a Pebble or Dualys and it is asking for a key you must have activated DEMO MODE. To turn this off you will go into the DESIGN MODE of the software (the button with the wrench and screwdriver making an X). Once in DESIGN MODE you will see a new button that says DEMO. Select this button and tell it to DECATIVATE.
A user guide for your printer and software
The user guide for your Evolis printer will be on the same CD-Rom as the driver you installed. However you can also go to the Evolis web site and download a copy. www.evolis.com
The eMedia software has a TUTORIAL file that you will find in the HELP menu at the top. This will give you 10 videos to watch on how to use the software. Or you can download a user guide from the eMedia web site as well. www.emedia-cards.com
Installing the system on Vista
Your Evolis printer and eMedia software are Vista compatible. However there are a couple extra steps required for the installation. If you let the CD’s automatically install you will have issues. This is because the security settings in Vista will not allow our programs to install properly. To avoid this you most explore or open the CD’s. Then you will find an installation file SETUP.EXE. If you right click on the file and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR Vista will then install all needed files.
Macintosh Users
Our units are stocked with the Windows systems. If you need to run the unit on a MAC you can go to www.evolis.com and download your needed MAC driver. The eMedia software however is not MAC compatible. To print from a MAC you are free to use any software of your choice (ex: Photoshop, Apple Works, File Maker PRO).
Magnetic encoder settings
If you have purchased a printer with a MAG encoder there is one setting you will want to confirm. The MAG encoder can handle both HICO and LOCO card stock. When first installed the printer will be setup for HICO. So if you are using LOCO you will need to go into the driver and change the encoding type. To do this click on START and go to PRINTERS & FAXES. You will see your Evolis icon. Right click the icon and select PROPERTIES. The printer driver will open up. There is a tab labeled TOOLS you will select. Then you will see a button for ENCODER SETTINGS. In here you can make the change.
A HICO card usually has a black MAG stripe. A LOCO card usually has a medium brown color.
Cleaning your printer
Your Evolis printer will require cleaning cycles to keep it working in good condition. Also the warranty for your print head requires the unit be cleaned (see users guide). If the cleaning light is on you will want to perform this task. Remove your ribbon and cards from the printer. Then insert an Evolis cleaning card into the card hopper. Go into the TOOLS tab of the driver and select PRINTER SELF CLEAN. The cleaning will launch and the light will then be turned off. A cleaning cycle should take about 30 seconds to finish.
If you are using thin cards make sure to adjust your card thickness to at least .30mil.
Migration of your license key
If you have purchased a License Key and need to switch the computer you are using you will need to migrate your license key. You will want to install the software on the new PC. Then uninstall it on the old PC. During the un-install it will ask to run the migrate application. This will generate a new number that you can then enter on the new PC.
